Built by a clinician, for the conversations that happen at home.
Mukai Institute makes calm, private tools for people trying to understand a relationship they are stuck in. The Parallax Assessment is the first of them — built by a clinician who has spent a career in the room while people worked out how to say the hard thing, and deliberately not that room.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) — California licence #21655
Christine has been licensed in California since 2003. She holds a Master of Social Work from New York University and has built her practice across New York City, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area — enough range to be wary of any tool that treats one way of relating as the correct one.
The Parallax Assessment came out of a pattern she kept meeting: two people describing the same relationship accurately and describing two different things. Not because either was lying, but because each could see their own side clearly and the other side only by inference. That is the parallax — and it is a problem of vantage, not of character.
The thinking behind the Parallax Assessment
A mirror, not a verdict
It hands back a description you can recognise yourself in, written to be read aloud with someone. It does not tell you what is wrong with you, and there is nothing in it to win.
Strengths first, because they are the part people skip
What you already do well is stated plainly before anything else, and it is stated because it is true — not to soften what follows. Where things get stuck is then named specifically enough to be useful.
No numbers, on purpose
Nothing you get back is a figure, a tier, or a placement against other people. A number invites comparison, and comparison is the opposite of what this is for.
It ends on something small
Every read closes on one thing you could try tonight — small enough to actually do, and never aimed at the sorest spot.
Why "Institute"
Because the work is meant to outlast any one tool. Mukai Institute is a small product company: an assessment, a deck of conversation cards, journals, and the writing around them. It teaches nothing, enrols nobody, and is not a route to becoming anything. If that ever changes, this page will say so plainly.
What this is, and what it is not
Mukai Institute is a product company, and it is a separate thing from any clinical practice. Reading this page, taking the Parallax Assessment, or buying anything here does not make you anyone’s client, and nobody here is treating you.
The Parallax Assessment is a structured reflection. It has not been validated as a clinical instrument, it diagnoses nothing, and it is not a stand-in for working with a professional. If something in your life is heavy enough that you have been waiting for a sign, please treat that as one, and talk to someone who can actually sit with you.
The honest way to judge it is to take it.
It runs about ten minutes, it asks for no account, and it costs nothing to see what it gives back.
